One of the best things about calisthenics training is that you don’t need any equipment to be able to do a calisthenics workout that will be fun and challenging, most people who take part in calisthenics training either train at home, the gym or in a local workout Park.

For the people who train at home, there will be some essential equipment needed if you are looking to take your calisthenics training to the next level, most of the equipment that you will need can be used for multiple exercises so it’s great value for money.

Below is a list of the most popular calisthenics equipment:

Equipment like the parallel bars and dip bars can be used for multiple exercises, for example, the dip bars can be used for body weight dips and bodyweight rows meaning that you can use one piece of equipment for a whole workout.

Parallette Bars

Parallette bars are a fantastic piece of equipment as they are so versatile and can be taken anywhere you go meaning you can train in your lunch break for example or if you’re working away with work you can work out in your hotel room.

Most exercises that are performed on the parallel bars are related to hand balancing or static holds, for example, the handstand, you can also perform static strength holds like the lsit, vsit and planche.

Parallette bars are a fantastic way to take the basics like dips and push ups to the next level as they allow you to add a greater range of motion.

When purchasing parallette bars it’s important to get a decent set as you want the parallel bars to be sturdy and secure.

Reebok Parallette Bars

Supporting up to 125 kg in bodyweight, the Reebok Parallette Bars are 25 (64 cm) in length with a 13 (33 cm) elevation and are an indispensable piece of training equipment.

You certainly dont have to be a trained gymnast to start using parallette bars, but they do provide amazing strength training benefits including improved upper body strength, forward and vertical pressing power, as well as stronger lats, forearms and core.

Parrallettes can also be dismantled and packed flat making them very easy to store away or take with you on your travels.

Gymnastic rings

Gymnastic rings will probably be the best investment you will make in a piece of exercise equipment, the list of exercises that you can perform on the gymnastics rings are endless, the gymnastics rings can be attached to anything that is secure including a pull-up bar or a strong tree branch which means you can take the rings anywhere you go including holidays, or a weekend away.

Most exercises that you would normally do can be performed on the gymnastics rings, the reason people love using the rings is that it adds an element of complexity to even the simplest of exercises as you have to stabilise your whole body.

When purchasing a set of gymnastics rings I would suggest buying a wooden set as this helps with your grip which is very important when performing skill moves like the muscle up.

If you will be setting up your rings outside then plastic rings would be a better option, if grip becomes an issue you can use chalk to improve grip.

5BILLION Wood Gymnastic Rings

Gymnastic Rings are ideal for tremendous gains in upper body and core functional strength.

Extra solid and smooth wood rings are very comfortable to grip and do your thing whether it be pull ups, biceps curls, push ups, dips, rows, muscle ups, chest flies, ect.

Dip Bars

Dip bars are also a very versatile piece of equipment which you can take anywhere with you as long as they fit in the transport that you have, you can perform many different exercises on the dip bars including dips, handstands, body weight rows, front lever, back levers and much much more.

One downside to the higher dip bars is they become unstable the taller the bars are, this isn’t always a bad thing as this will challenge your balance and strength, if you make sure that the base is on flat ground this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

Lebert Equalizer

The Lebert Equalizer is a simple, handy and versatile device for the full body workout and is recommended by many personal trainers worldwide.

There is a very good reason for this, the Lebert Equali  is a portable, easy to use training device, you can train your whole body including your arms, back, chest and leg muscles

Resistance Bands

Resistance bands in my opinion are a key tool when you train calisthenics as they allow you to build strength while making sure that you are using correct form, it’s sometimes hard to have good form if you are not strong enough to perform the exercise you’re trying to do so that’s when having a resistance band is key.

The resistance band will allow you to perform any exercise with a level of difficulty taken away as the band is taking some of the weight that you are trying to pull up, for example, making the exercise easier and helping you either get some more reps or spend more time under tension if you’re holding a static exercise.

Like the gymnastics rings, there are so many exercises that can be performed using the resistance band, most people use resistance bands for exercises like pull-ups, chin-ups, muscle ups and the front and back lever.

It’s very important that you buy a good band as you don’t want them snapping, cheaper bands have the tendency to snap so it’s worth reading the reviews before purchasing, Rubberbanditz is a highly rated resistance band used by some of the leading calisthenics athletes in the world.

Resistance bands come in a variety of colours, the colour will correspond with the assistance that will be applied, the website or shop you are buying from will tell you these details, the stronger you get the lower the assistance you will need.

Starwood Resistance Bands

Starwood resistance bands are what i personally use and you will see me use them in my calisthenics videos.

The reason that i use these bands are they are great quailty and are resonabily priced unlike some of the other bands on the market.

Rubberbanditz resistance bands are the highest quality bands on the market but this means that they are more expensive than other bands.

These bands are used by the top bodyweight athletes in the worlds due to the high quality and diverse range.

If you are looking for the best of the best these are for you.

Pull Up Bars/Stations

Pull exercises are really important as they help build fundamental strength which will be used in your standard calisthenics training and the strength build will help when you start moving towards skills like the muscle up.

Pull up bars and pull up stations are a great way to practise some of the basics like pull ups, chin ups and rows at home, if you’re like me and you love skills like muscle ups and ring work then a pull up bar is an essential piece of home equipment to perfect these skills.
